This is my first time at Odd Burgers
Its 100% Vegan place
My mom doesn't eat meat
So this was perfect for her
Upon checkout
Before making my payment
I was asked “Would you like to add a tip?”
TIP For What?
For making my food?
Side note - I ordered two vegan burgers and 1 French fries $28

Ever since Covid now every place
Including Fast Foods
Including Starbucks
Ask “Do you want to add tip”?

Common Pricing Formula Restaurants including Fast Food use:
Menu Price = Food Cost × 3 to 4
If it costs the restaurant $5 to make your pasta dish (ingredients only)
It’s often priced at $15–$20 on the menu.
That markup is meant to cover:
Labor costs (kitchen staff, waitstaff)
Overhead (equipment, cleaning, insurance)
Rent and utilities
Marketing
Profit margin
I live in Toronto & in Toronto (where I live) the minimum wage is $17.20 per hour including fast-food and restaurants as well. An Employer in Ontario must pay at least the applicable minimum wage to their employees, and tips or gratuities cannot be used to offset this obligation. Therefore, restaurant workers are entitled to receive the full minimum wage in addition to any tips they earn.
And in California where I was for 4 months, the fast foods restaurants have to pay $20 per hour. Assembly Bill (AB) 1228, also known as the Fast Food Franchisor Responsibility Act.
My post is coming from a lens of where I live currently as well as where I was living temporary for 4 months in California.
I cannot speak on other provinces (Canada) and states (US) or other countries for that matter.
